The TCS New York City Marathon brings together a diverse field of runners from the NYC area and beyond. The non-guaranteed entry drawing helps preserve the geographic diversity of the race. The non-guaranteed entry drawing for the 2019 TCS New York City Marathon took place on February 27, 2019.
The non-guaranteed entry drawing helps preserve the geographic diversity of the race. The entries available to non-guaranteed applicants will be filled through three drawings (“Drawings”), held in 2019 on February 27, 2019, one in each of the following applicant pools:
- “NYC-metro area” applicants (i.e. residents in and within 60 miles of New York City)
- “National” applicants (i.e. U.S. residents outside of the NYC-metro area, including Puerto Rico and other U.S. territories)
- “International” applicants (i.e. non-U.S. residents)
After completing the Drawings for the 2019 TCS New York City Marathon, 10,510 runners were added to the field from a total of 117,709 applications. Approximately 9% of NYC-Metro Area Drawing applicants were selected (3,035 runners); approximately 9% of National Drawing applicants were selected (4,433 runners); and approximately 9% of International Drawing applicants were selected (3,042 runners). Thus, the pool of runners accepted through the Drawings was made up of 29% NYC-Metro, 42% national and 29% international applicants.
Other factors such as an applicant’s state of origin also may affect their chances to be selected subject to NYRR’s need to maintain geographic diversity and within NYRR’s sole discretion. NYRR reserves the right to adjust drawing criteria at NYRR’s sole discretion and without notice.
Once you submit your application for the non-guaranteed drawing, you have authorized NYRR to charge your credit card a non-refundable entry fee upon acceptance into the 2019 TCS New York City Marathon. You can remove your name from the applicant pool prior to the drawing, but once you are accepted by any method, all fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. NYRR does not contact applicants prior to accepting them in order to reconfirm that they wish to be selected.
