Guidelines for Volunteering
Arriving to Volunteer
Please arrive on time for your shift. Remember that Standard Time resumes at 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, November 5, 2017.
When you arrive at your volunteer location you need to check-in with the Volunteer Coordinator at your site.
What to Wear
Please dress warm in layers and wear comfortable shoes as you will likely be on your feet for the duration of your shift.
Volunteers at all fluid stations will receive a knit hat and poncho to keep them dry. Start, Finish, Transportation, and Course volunteers will receive an official TCS New York City Marathon windbreaker. The jacket must be worn over all layers. We will do our best to accommodate size requests.
All volunteers will receive a commemorative pin when they check out.
Bags and Belongings
Please do not bring a bag. Bags thicker than an envelope and larger than a fist will not be permitted on the course, in Fort Wadsworth, or at the finish line. Small fanny packs are permitted.
If you must bring a bag, you will have to check it at volunteer check-in. NYRR is not responsible for lost or stolen bags. Bikes will need to be properly stored and locked.
Plan Your Shift
Please plan to assist for your entire assigned shift. If you leave early, you may compromise the safety of the runners or spectators. If you need to leave early in the case of an emergency, please check out with your captain.
