The TCS New York City Marathon brings together a diverse field of runners from the NYC area and beyond. The non-guaranteed entry drawing helps preserve the geographic diversity of the race.
The non-guaranteed entry drawing for the 2018 TCS New York City Marathon took place February 28, 2018.
For the 2017 TCS New York City Marathon on March 2, 2017, the entries available to non-guaranteed applicants were filled through three drawings (“Drawings”), which were held, one in each of the following applicant pools:
1.“NYC-metro area” applicants (i.e. residents in and within 60 miles of New York City)
2.“National” applicants (i.e. U.S. residents outside of the NYC-metro area, including Puerto Rico and other U.S. territories)
3.“International” applicants (i.e. non-U.S. residents)
After completing the Drawings for the 2017 TCS New York City Marathon, 16,211 runners were added to the field from a total of 98,247 applications. Approximately 17% of NYC-Metro Area Drawing applicants were selected (5,145 runners); approximately 17% of National Drawing applicants were selected (6,748 runners); and approximately 17% of International Drawing applicants were selected (4,318). Thus, the pool of runners accepted through the Drawings was made up of 31.7% NYC-Metro, 41.6% national and 26.6% international applicants.
Other factors such as an applicant’s state of origin also may affect their chances to be selected subject to NYRR’s need to maintain geographic diversity and within NYRR’s sole discretion. NYRR reserves the right to adjust drawing criteria at NYRR’s sole discretion and without notice.
